2 Blackminton sessions in Badminton clubs

Blackminton Party in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

Speedminton UK held the first Blackminton Party of 2008 in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire on Thursday 21st February.
The Royal Veterinary College Badminton Club and the HAMSA Badminton Club invited us to hold a Blackminton Party for both clubs.
Each club had a 2 hour Blackminton session in the Dame Alice Owen’s School Sports Centre, illuminated by four 400 Watt UV-Lights and accompanied by their own soundtrack.
So, with the room literally glowing from the 4 UV-Cannons and some banging tunes playing in the background this was going to be no ordinary Badminton Club session.

The youngest player was 14 on the day and the oldest player was around 50.
Each group had around 30 members who all fully enjoyed themselves.
The organisers had arranged a little buffet and a non alcoholic bar was set up, which really helped to create a party atmosphere.
The sports hall itself was around 35m x 18m giving us plenty of room for three courts, a spectator area and a space to practise off court.
The mood and enthusiasm of all the players was fantastic and Catrina Durose the organizer behind the event was delighted with the outcome:
“We had an absolutely great time here tonight. Everyone got into the spirit of things, especially when the girls were able to give the boys a make-over with glowing UV make-up. I can’t believe that most of our players really turned themselves into night glowing creatures. The place dimmed in UV light looked stunning, so did all our painted participants. We had everyone chipping in for the event and tickets sold like hot cakes. In the end we were all convinced that it was worth every penny! We are now looking to do this again hopefully after the summer.”

We also held a raffle with prizes donated by Speedminton UK, one lucky winner taking home an S100 Speedset and six others each receiving a Speedminton “Anytime, Anywhere” T-shirt.
